We Have Fiber...And Not The Dietary Kind (2007-11-01)
Did you find that viewing this site is much faster than before, like FIFTY times (seriously) faster? That is because we have fiber connection now, installed last month!
ADSL Broadband connection is no longer good enough for KL, so after
months (perhaps years) of deliberation, he finally decided that the
hassle of getting it installed is not nearly as big a trouble as the
frustration he gets from "slow" connection while he surfs the interweb.
Although he has done thorough research about this fiber thing, he's
still a bit disappointed to find out our downloading speed is not
consistently 20 times faster that he's hoped for. He
says the congestion of our line plays an important factor, but
there's nothing much he could do about that. He still likes to
check our connection speed on kakaku.com everyday and it gives him
tremendous satisfaction to see our downloading speed at 80Mbps (this
number fluctuates at different times of the day). I
dunno what significance that number holds, but apparently it is a very
good number to have when you have internet connection.
As for me, I'm just happy that I can now watch very fast and very
smooth news clips and cooking videos on the internet, not to mention
YouTube clips. Downloading
large files is faster too, heehee.
Addendum: KL showed me a New York Times article on fiber
connection. According to that article, Japan ranks number one in
the world of having the fastest AND cheapest broadband
connection. Yay.
