Santouka Ramen (2008-03-10)

I'm usually in favor of light clear broth in ramen, but my brother's love of thick heavy ramen soup when he visited last December has piqued my interest in looking for such a concortion.

It just so happened that Santouka, whose famous ramen soup is so heavy and deep that it appears white, just opened up another shop right above Shinjuku (kanji) Station's south exit.   I remember vaguely about it but never got the chance to try.

The shop is small, just three tables and counter seats.  We didn't have to wait long when we arrived, but the line significantly grew by the time we left.  Menu is limited, but if they do the ramen right, that's all I want from them.

KL ordered his usual Shioramen (simple salt flavor) which in any other shops would have been clear and light.  But not Santouka, theirs is milky and thick.  My Shoyuramen (soy sauce flavor) is the same basic white broth with added soy sauce, thus it appeared slightly brownish.

The soup's delicious!  I must say it's the best ramen I've eaten so far.  The ramen my brother ate didn't satisfy his palate, perhaps this one would.  This one should.
