Work Clothes (2004-04-10)
Japanese take pride in their work. They show it through great
work
ethic, professionalism and their uniforms. That's right, nearly
every
employee or tradesman wears some kind of uniform or working
clothes.
You almost never see any man or woman show up to work in street
clothes (except our postman. See picture). Sure, salarymen
wear suits, but I think that IS their unofficial work clothes.
They wear it rain or shine, in raging storm or sweltering
heat. Companies often have uniforms for female office
workers. They are easy to spot during lunch hours in business
districts. KL is lucky to work for a company that doesn't require
him to suit up, I'd hate to see him cook under it in the
summer.
Working clothes range from a simple corporate cap and apron to the
matching
shirt and baggy pants construction workers often wear. Split-toe
rubber-soled shoes are also unique to many tradesmen and to wear those
you'll have to put on glove-like socks that have five little tubes to
fit over each toe. A worker can literally
dress from head to toe in uniform.
