Victoria City (2007-02-14)

Victoria City is famous for their abalone dishes, but KL and I didn't go there to eat abalone.  We went there to have an early dim sum lunch.  We were the first two customers to arrive right at 11am and was attended by multiple waiters who had nobody else to serve.  The interior is bright and colorful with Chinese New Year decorations everywhere.  The seat covers are an overkill which look a bit cheesy.

We ordered their kinda famous steamed Shanghai hairy crab dumplings which were full of orangey crab roe and lots of juice with strangely little crab flavor.  For HK$22/US$2.8 each, I wouldn't get that again.  The roast goose was very good with warm moist meat and CRISPY skin.  It was the first time I ever ate goose with crunchy skin and I thoroughly loved it, but the serving's tiny.  In fact everything we ordered including the Dan Dan Noodles were small except the Stirfried Rice Noodles with XO Sauce.

If you are a big eater, you might need to order more dishes than you are used to since the serving size is smallish.  It is good for us because we can try a few more things without filling up.  Overall the food's not bad at all (I have yet to eat "bad" food in Hong Kong), but not so great that I'm dying to return.  If in the area, I might very well go back to have their goose and rice rolls again.
