Shanghai Hairy Crabs (2008-12-18)

Knowing how much I adore Shanghai hairy crabs, why am I not eating more of them while they are in season?

One word: LAZINESS

Do I want to drag my sorry ass out of the comfortable toasty home into the chilly street, ride my bike to the station, and take TWO trains to Ueno (kanji) just to get crabs?  The answer is No.  I guess I place comfort higher than food?

This past Saturday, I went with KL to have his haircut as usual (I've been doing this for awhile now so that I can visit my friend and her husband at their barbershop and to bring them food I make).  After that, we decided to grab lunch at Yansando in neighboring Ueno; and while we were in Ueno, we might as well see what's selling in the underground shopping arcade in Ameyokocho (kanji).

Wow wow, so many people!  Wow wow wow, so many hairy crabs, thousands of them!!  There were three venders selling them these days (instead of the usual two).  They're all priced the same, so it doesn't make any difference where you get them from (and I can't tell if one's crabs are any fresher than the others).  But if you speak Mandarin and be nice with the monger (all three are Chinese), you may get a discount.  I got 500Yen (5 bucks) off the three crabs I bought just by chatting with the seller, hehehe.  Or does he give discount to every gullible housewife?!
