Daifoo Took A Turn For The Worse (2009-07-01)

Just two days after Daifoo returned home from the vet, he suddenly took a turn for the worse.  He developed diarrhea, vomitting and passed bloody urine!

Pretty much all through the night, he would hurry off to the litterbox, squeezed out a couple of drops of blood-stained pee and plonked on the floor utterly exhausted.  Then he would get up again in a few seconds and off to the litterbox.  I stayed up the whole night with him and watched him go back and forth, back and forth from the litterbox to the dining room floor.

The next morning I was the first to arrive at the darkened vet clinic before it opened.  Fortunately I didn't have to wait too long on the street as the nurses usually open the door 15 minutes before business hour.

After examination, Daifoo was immediately put on an IV drip and also got an injection under the skin.  What followed I have no idea because he spent the next 8 hours in the cage getting fluid replacement and a bunch more IV medication.

Well, when I went to pick him up at 5pm, he was a different cat.  He looked alert and well, and with those big green eyes of his told me he's ready to come home.  The vet said he didn't have any  urine frequency while hospitalized and he even licked up all the liquid diet himself without the force-feeding I've been doing at home.

As soon as he arrived home, he peed a healthy amount of clear urine ( I know cause he peed it on a soaking mat in front of the litterbox by mistake), ate a decent amount of canned food (first in many weeks), asked for a walk (and got it) and then pooped a solid pebble!  I was overcome with joy!

I don't know when Daifoo will suddenly deteriorate again.  But for this time, he seemed to have jumped through a big hurdle, and for that, I count my blessings.

GAN-BA-RE, Daifoo!
