Lau Pa Sat (2014-12-29)

We are no food snobs, but eating in a hawker center in Singapore's hot humid weather isn't our top choice of dining setting.  But I thought we should at least give one a try.

Lots of people go to Lau Pa Sat to have satay, so that's what we'd have.  I don't need to tell you about the history and significance of Lau Pa Sat here, that's what wikipedia is for.

We got there around 7pm and the staff of the satay stalls were just setting up tables behind the building.  The vendors were very aggressive selling their food, shoving menus in your face.  We didn't know which one's good or not, we just picked the one that had the most customers.

The satay was sold in sets, you couldn't buy just one stick which was ok except we got a bit sick of eating meat after meat very soon.

As for the taste, it was good and the dipping sauce was not bad.  BUT, the sticks arrived LUKEWARM.  They were definitely pre-cooked and just barely heated through on the grill.  What's worse was the meat, especially the chicken, was soooooo dry.  I was anticipating piping hot fresh-off-the-grill juicy chicken satay, but none of that happened...sigh...

After the disappointing satay, we went inside the building and got char kway teow.  As usual, this dish was way too sweet for our taste.  It's their tradition to use sweet sauce in frying the rice noodles, but that just tasted weird for us.
