Erawan Thai Restaurant (2005-06-25)

My girlfriend made a handsome profit in the real estate market recently and treated me to lunch with her earnings.  We walked past a Thai restaurant which serves a buffet lunch on our way to our favorite Chinese restaurant in Shinjuku (kanji), so we decided to give Thai food a go instead.  The place is called Erawan and is located on the 8th floor of Adohokku building on Yasukunidori Street across the ward office.  The interior is quite spacious with bigger-than-usual tables and cushy chairs and the staff were nice, but the praise pretty much stops at that.

There was a paltry number of dishes to choose from on the buffet table and they weren't tasty.  There was only one chicken dish which was fried chicken wing drumsticks.  They were so overdone that the meat had reached a jerky-grade dryness.  One of the other dishes was an uninspiring stir-fried Chinese bok choy with chili and then there was a worse one: hard scrambled eggs with no fillings whatsoever.  Would it kill them to at least throw a bit of chopped onions in it?  And don't get me started on the beef dish which I left barely touched on my plate, yes, it was that bad.

However I did enjoy the Thai fragrant rice immensely.  Knowing how much I adore this rice (I carry home a bag every time I travel to an Asian country), I happily chowed down on two big helpings.  It's also a matter of necessity if I was going to walk out of the restaurant feeling full.
